Icing

The astronomical high tide accompanied by high winds and cold temperatures coated everything in its path at Wollaston Beach.

Travel Tuesday: Gloucester, Massachusetts

The only kind of travel I can do today is "cyber" travel.  There's a raging snow storm going on outside, complete with white-out conditions and coastal flooding.  I think it's best to stay inside and enjoy this tranquil scene hoping that the power stays on.

The deep freeze is "on" again.

I wonder if Thomas Morton walked down from the Maypole on Merrymount Hill to fish, trap or just "make merry" along the banks of Blacks Creek.

I have photographed these two trees at Blacks Creek in different seasons and I think this is my favorite view with the ribbon of water adding some interest. 

Now You See Them . . . Next Week You Won't

The polar vortex has collapsed for the time being. The ice floes will begin their disappearing act soon.

Blue Moiré

Blacks Creek is showing some signs of winter melt.  The wavy, watery pattern reminds me of a beautiful moiré fabric.  Happy Skywatch Friday!

Blacks Creek has formed its first skim of ice this season, forcing the waterfowl to scout out some open water in the vicinity of Furnace Brook Parkway.

A little January thaw has had an impact on the ice at Marina Bay, forming concentric circles. The Boston skyline can be seen in the distance.

The Ice Flows

The ice flows out to the Atlantic Ocean at Blacks Creek.

Yacht Not

The tide is out at Squantum Yacht Club. The pilings are reflected on water that froze quickly when the tide waters receded. Now that's cold!

New Skates

This smart dad brought a chair to Sailors' Home Pond to help his kids put their skates on and to save his back in doing so. Sailors' Pond is in the middle of a residential section in Wollaston called Beechwood Knoll, which is close to Wollaston Beach. The frigid temps must be keeping most skaters indoors today.
