Building For $ale

The last car dealership in Quincy Center, South Shore Buick, took its flag in for the last time after being in business for 86 years. It's difficult and sad to see family businesses that once thrived, go under. This Buick dealership was the oldest in the nation! See a former post of it that I did here. The owners will look to sell the property for reuse. I wish them the very best.

Car dealership properties are difficult to sell in this economy. I posted the closed Foley Chrysler dealerhsip here back in 2007 which is still vacant and has been since 2006. What signs of the economic downturn do you see in your community?

5 Chimneys & 4 Gables

Architect George E. Robinson designed this fine Colonial Revival commercial brick building in 1940 for a sum of $50,000. Robinson is better known for designing numerous fire stations in Quincy beginning with the Central Headquarters in 1938. This building located at 50 Adams Street, still has it's original slate roof and is just down the street from the Adams Mansion. It is occupied by South Shore Buick, America's oldest Buick dealership, and has been owned by the FitzGerald family for 85 years. If you would've rather have had a Buick check out these models 1908-1949. (Keep scrolling down until you see the pictures.) I would like to have had the 1931 56S coupe! How about you?

Retail space available

Foley Chrysler Car Dealership closed its doors about a year ago after 50 years in operation. Consolidation is putting small family-owned dealerships out of business, south of Boston. I wonder what business will move in next?

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
