Tides Out

Today is definitely a "beach day" if you don't have school or work.  At Squantum Point you can barely make out the Boston skyline in the haze.

This Wollaston Beach-goer may have lots of company today as people seek relief from the heat-wave we're in.  High tide is early morning and early evening.  There is an excessive heat advisory for today so be careful if you are out and about. 

Front Row Seat

I like the way the HDR setting on my camera plays up the drama in the sky.  These lifeguards have only the sky to watch on these unsettled days at Wollaston Beach . . . Happy Skywatch Friday!

Travel Tuesday: Sandwich, Massachusetts

Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod.  Storms from this past winter and spring changed the landscape of Sandwich Town Beach.   The Atlantic Ocean came perilously close to beachfront houses; one is in the process of being moved back from the water.  Many of the trails to the beach have been closed to help preserve what is left of the dunes.  In the picture below new grass has been planted to try and anchor the new sand that was trucked in.  One resident trucked in $10,000 worth of sand to try and restore some of the frontage lost to erosion.  Mother Nature will have her way eventually . . . but meanwhile, what a beautiful place to enjoy on a sunny day.

Summer Scene

It's finally "summer break" for most Quincy school children and teachers.  Wollaston Beach should be filling in with lots of people in the upcoming heat plume.   Happy Skywatch Friday!  (after the fog lifts)

My favorite beach south of Quincy is fantastic Nantasket Beach located in Hull.  It's fine grade of sand makes it one of the finest beaches in New England, especially at low tide.

Treasure Seekers

Happy Monochrome Monday!  A lot of sand got moved around on local beaches this past winter which has brought the "metal men" out looking for treasure.  This capture is from Nantasket beach with Boston Light in the distance.
