Stone Temple

The "Stone Library" of John Quincy Adams is considered by some to be the first Presidential Library. This building was constructed with granite from local quarries and holds more than 14,000 volumes.

The Massachusetts Historical Society is publishing one-liner diary entries that Quincy's President John Qunicy Adams made in late August, 1809; his posts were all 140 characters or less, so it’s doing it via Twitter. This marble relief of our 6th president was sculpted by Renzo Palmerini and is located in the Hall of Presidents at the Vermont Marble Company in Proctor Vt. The amazing Hall of the Presidents is pictured below.

Both Presidents, John Adams and John Quincy Adams, were lifetime members of the United First Parish Church shown here. Their tombs stand within a crypt in the church. I like returning to photograph this magnificent Greek Revival edifice, built of Quincy granite and designed by Alexander Parris.
