Flood Tide

It's unusual to see the brackish water in the estuary at Black's Creek. Meadowbrook Road is in the background.

Heap of Clouds

The eel grass in Quincy's estuaries turns to gold in the autumn.  I like the arched branch of berries in the foreground of this scene and the exploding cumulus clouds filling the autumn sky.

Lush Green

You would never know that we are in the midst of a drought by this view of Blacks Creek.

This view of Squantum is taken from the flooded salt marsh near the Causeway.

Flood Tide

The next few posts were captured on the Squantum peninsula. The Causeway seen here is one of the main access roads to this part of Quincy.  It most likely got inundated on Saturday from the storm and astronomical high tides.   It is unusual to see the water this high in the estuary.

Autumn At The Creek

This lone heron is storing up for a trip South one of these weeks.  Temperatures have been balmy this October and early November.

A Ducky Day

Ducks are busy feeding in the estuary at Blacks Creek during an astronomical high tide.

Cowlicks

The tide's ebb and flow leaves the golden marsh grasses with many cowlicks!

Saltmarsh Sentry

I spotted this Great Blue Heron soaking up some sun along the Quincy River Walk.  Happy Monochrome Monday.

Wary Eye

This Great Blue Heron kept a wary eye on me and my canine walking buddy near Marina Bay.

Going Green

The estuary at Blacks Creek is greening up.  That is Meadowbrook Road in the background.

Blue Ribbon

I have photographed these two trees at Blacks Creek in different seasons and I think this is my favorite view with the ribbon of water adding some interest.

Travel Tuesday: Sandwich, Massachusetts

Mother nature spared the boardwalk at Town Neck Beach in Sandwich during the recent winter storm.  The water floods the estuary; the dunes maintain their barrier to the retreating ocean; tranquility resumes until the next storm.

Purple Puffs

The Quonset style building is located within the Squantum saltmarsh.  The people who work there must see plenty of urban wildlife in the area.  Happy Skywatch Friday!  The clouds look like they are painted on this image and they are - by nature!

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
