Travel Tuesday: Portsmouth, Rhode Island

This life size giraffe is one of the many creature creations in the Green Animals Topiary Garden.  This whimsical garden is the oldest and most northern topiary garden in the United States and is the backdrop for Chris VanAllsburg's children's book, The Garden of Abdul Gasazi. Take the book out of your local library and bring it with you to read to your children or grand children as you wander around the 7 acre garden finding all the animals in the story.

Travel Tuesday: Boylston, Massachusetts

Lettuce is ready to harvest at the Tower Hill Botanic Gardens.  This non-profit educational institution is a "must visit" for anyone interested in horticulture.  I like the blue stakes and red shed.

Peace at "Peacefield"

The grounds of the Adams Mansion are opened all year long -- even during the National Park shutdown.  Enjoy!

I met Karen today as she was leaving the Wollaston Garden Club's annual holiday greens sale. She graciously stopped and let me take her picture. She told me that she has been a follower of QDP and that her house was one of this blog's featured old houses on Thursdays . . . what fun!

The second photo below is a good overview of this very successful annual event. The Wollaston Garden Club not only gets me into the spirit but also takes the proceeds from this event and gives back to the community by landscaping and planting beautiful areas all around Quincy for everyone to enjoy. Lady Bird Johnson must be smiling. Thank you, and Happy Holidays WGG!

This late summer flower garden is located on the grounds of the Adams National Historic site. The ivy on the Adams Presidential Library is very lush after a season's growth.

Our Fathers

This tranquil setting is the outdoor sanctuary at Faith Garden.

Today is the day our country set aside to celebrate and honor good and caring fathers. A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. In Sonora's eyes, her father was a courageous, selfless, and loving man. Sonora's father was born in June, so she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June, 1910. That is also the year that my father was born. This one's for you, dad.

Granite benches are spaced out along the garden path at Faith Garden. The benches are inscribed with scripture. This bench says: "Do not forget to do good and to share with others" . . . not a bad reminder. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

This is the second post from the most beautiful rock garden I've seen in Quincy: Faith Garden. We'll make our way up to the granite bench next Sunday. This garden has shady areas as well as sunny areas in which to enjoy the rock scape. Enjoy your Sunday everyone!
