Remembering

Today's post, from Mount Wollaston Cemetery, was taken in the quiet of the dawn, in honor of the soldiers who gave their lives for our country.

A Moment In Time Around the World

The typewriter song was played at Wollaston Congregational Church as a postlude to honor church secretaries. Do you remember using a typewriter???

This image was also published as part of the awesome interactive photo project from the New York Times . . . the earth is covered by stacks of thousands of virtual photographs, corresponding in location to where they were taken by readers at one "Moment in Time" on Sunday, May 2nd at 11:00AM EST.

Coastal Calm

This serene scene is taken from Merrymount looking at Adams Shore.

Along The Shore Road

I like how the retaining wall leads you into this sunset image along the shore road in Merrymount. You can see Boston in the distance.

Thursday is "This Old House Day"

This unassuming home at 40 Grandview Ave. was the scene of a wedding in 1913. Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, who directed the U.S. Naval operations in the Pacific after Japan's sneak attack at Pearl Harbor, married a Quincy girl named Catherine Vance Freeman, who lived here with her family. The couple apparently met while Nimitz was in Quincy waiting for his submarine to be outfitted at Fore River Shipyard.

The Crane Relief

The exterior of the Thomas Crane Library is granite and brownstone. Pictured here on the gable end of the street elevation are cranes flanking TCPL to commemorate the generosity of the Crane family. I think the Crane family would be very pleased to see thousands of citizens flocking to their library in these tough times.

Evening Glow

I like the welcoming flags at Chickatawbut Beach in the beautiful coastal section of Merrymount.

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
