Stephan Morelli is the one and only cobbler in town and has worked at his craft at Morelli Shoe Repair on Hancock Street, in the Wollaston section of Quincy, for 23 years. In 1940, when Stephan came here from Romania, there were 40 other Quincy cobblers besides himself. At the same time, there were 84 cobblers working in the nearby Dorchester section of Boston . . . now there are none in Dorchester. "People throw shoes away now. Shoes today are made of poor quality . . . not fixable." Stephan informed me that this is one of the by products of consumerism. I know that "bc" found a cobbler in Chicago. Do you still have a cobbler in your city or town?
