Hi Slim! Thanks for your comment on my blog! :)
Is this really a chimney? Or just made to look like one... Either way, it looks cool!
My pleasure, tlb-
This is an 1880s house and the chimney extends past the roofline, so my guess is that there is a flue to the left and the rest is a decorative element. Maybe a cook stove is hooked up to it . . . or a Franklin stove because there isn't much space between windows for a fireplace . . . no matter . . . I'll have to keep guessing until I meet the inhabitants and find out.
I've never seen that before! At least they can open the window to let the smoke out!!
Maybe at one time it was a working fireplace and now just decorative. Whichever it is cool looking.
Thanks for visiting my blog. MB
Eh, no... quite amazing. I guess this is an easy one for Santa Claus.
in our old neighborhood in shaker heights there was a house that had a window in it's chimney, never failed to amaze and tickle!
if I remember correctly, the mark twain house in hartford has a window right over the fireplace - twain thought it was amusing to have a window there -- particularly when it was snowing.
This is quite a site and what a great idea it was :)
Slim,
You are correct the flue is to the left - there wasn't a fire place there and the room is the kitchen so there was probably a Franklin or a cook stove there. I always marvel at that window especially considering there are windows to the left and right of it
