Thomas Crane was a wealthy stone contractor who got his start in the Quincy quarries. This portrait of him is hanging in the Quincy Room of my favorite library that not only bears his name, Thomas Crane Public Library, but was funded by his family as a lasting memorial to him. This architectural gem is also my favorite book source!

This is great, a 2 for one combining the portrait and the books! Happy theme day :)
Sounds like a wonderful library. Happy theme day!
This is a great photo and a good choice for theme day! I almost picked a photo of our library for today too, because it's my favorite source for books. I'll do it another day, I guess.
That looks like such a nice library.
A fine portrait above the books. I love it when men who've made their money spend some of libraries - any of the arts. Wonderful! Super photo.
This is such a warm, inviting photo. I appreciate the history.
What a great gift Thomas Crane gave to your city
Such a majestic place to find a book!
Thank you for the informative text — it really adds depth to the photo. Bless his family for the wonderful gift to your city!
Happy Theme Day!
H Theme Day to you too, and thanks for visiting me in Sydney!
Is Thomas Crane connected in anyway to the fine papermakers of New England, Crane Paper Company? (In addition to make fine papers and stationary, they're also the exclusive provider of currency papers to the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing. But I digress and hijack...)
Great photo and information for this theme. Happy Theme Day!
Thanks for visiting to Nelson Daily Photo and sharing such a beautiful library with us.
