Writers of Note

These books reside in the Quincy Room at the Thomas Crane Library because noteworthy authors like John Cheever, Robert Rimmer and Elisabeth Ogilvie, to name a few, resided in Quincy. Do you have any noteworthy authors from your city or town?

Out here in Leominster we have two authors that I can think of. Robert Cormier who wrote 'the Chocolate War', 'I Am the Cheese' and a bunch of others.

Then there is R.A Salvatore who writes scifi/fantasy. His famous character is Drizzt Do'Urden which has been part of many books.

One of my favorites, Adriana Trigiani is from Big Stone Gap, about a hundred miles from us. I am anxious to go see the places I've read about through her Stone Gap series. I'm not sure of any others yet.

Nice of the library to pay attention of these authors.

Here in Vermont, you can't throw a cat without hitting a writer. But I, ahem, do not advocate throwing any cats.

Paul- I read "I am the Cheese" many decades ago. Did you know that Cormier's "Chocolate Wars" was rated as the fourth most challenged book between 1990 and 2000, according to the American Library Association. The book was first published in 1974 and is still being challenged, which makes me want to read it ;)

Keep on writing, Abe.

Tanya- I love going to places that writers write about. Big Stone Gap sounds like it's from a novel.

Very funny, Brattcat!

G - I looked up a picture of your poet laureate, Sam, in Salem Public Library's archives and he looks sad . . . perhaps he died of a broken heart.

I live in Tungelsta and there's one or two famous writers from my little city. But I don't think they are known outside of Sweden. Ivar Lo- Johansson is one of them.

Sure. Stephanie Meyer of Twilight fame. Richard Paul Evans who wrote the Christmas Box, and Terry Tempest Williams, the famous environmental writer of Refuge.
