Cozy Hearth

The woodwork in the H.H. Richardson wing of the Thomas Crane Library is North Carolina pine. Hand carved native plants and berries form part of the ornamental woodwork of the fireplace and was designed by Henry Hobson Richardson's architectural firm. I'm sure the chimney flues are closed now for lots of reasons.

That gentleman looks as if he belongs there. What a rich, satisfying shot. I do love woodwork. And this is a gorgeous species and finish.

Beautiful! We don't have anything close to that nice in the way of libraries around Northern IL.

I visited ,Last winter, some castles in the Loire Valley in France ,
and in almost every room a fire was burning in the fireplaces!! (Chenonceaux, Amboise,) It really was magic ..
I could picture myself in that library reading my book next to the fire!!

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
