It Started Here

Dunkin' Donuts claims to be the "world's largest coffee and baked goods chain," serving 2.7 million customers per day at approximately 8,800 stores in 31 countries, which includes approximately 6,400 Dunkin' Donuts locations throughout the USA. The company was started by William Rosenberg at this store (above) on the Southern Artery in Quincy. They have become well known for their popular advertising campaigns. Below is the flagship store as it looked in 1951.

I would drive from Brooklyn, NY to Quincy Mass for some donuts there if it didn't look like every other Dunkin' Donuts that I would pass on my way there.

The top photo has the great colour (do I mean that?) which could only go with a fast-food outlet. The bottom shot is the one for me. Really speaks to the 50s, and that middle car is just gorgeous. I have to say, as a Brit, Dunkin Donuts has never quite made my 'must do' list. Maybe one day.

I prefer the old style shop front.

Dunkin Donuts hasn't made it over here yet. Not that I've seen anyway.

Fantastic 1950's photo! The middle car looks like what we called upside down bathtubs. :)

Even though I feel as though I live in the middle of nowhere here in rural Sudbury, no matter which direction I choose, north, south, east or west, I can reach a DD within 5 minutes of my home. But, then again, I make my own coffee. I do like those flatbread sandwiches though. Thanks for the original picture.

I had no idea that I used to live a 10 minute walk from the original Dunkin Donuts! Nowadays I head to my local Dunkin Donuts here in South Korea when I need a taste of home. Some stuff is different, like green tea lattes and ice cocoa, but the bagels are the best I can find in this city. I've never been much of a doughnut eater though...

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
