Theme Day: Doorways

Today is "Theme Day" in the City Daily Photo Blog community. I chose to post a picture of the original 1881 H.H. Richardson Romanesque doorway of one of my favorite haunts: the Thomas Crane Public Library. I didn't notice any shoeless people but someone's shoes are airing in the sunshine.

Wow, that is outstanding. It does't even look like it belongs in the U.S. It makes me proud to know we have such a nice piece of architecture on our turf. And, I love the photo!

Very impressive, Slim. I would think this doorway was in Italy! The shoes add a humorous touch!

The masonry work here is superb and the tradesmen have created a door that will last down through the centuries. I am glad that you have chosen it for the Theme Day.

Oh my goodness, you'd not even know you were in Quincy. That's some doorway. Fabulous!

As soon as I saw this I knew where it was. There are beautiful fireplaces inside the library too, with comfy chairs inside. There are also shoeless people inside, sometimes!

Libraries...some of our best architecture, don't you think? Really fine shot. I love the shoes on the steps.

The Invisible Man takes break in the sunlight.

Hi, Slim. Thanks for asking about the rest of the house. I don't have a camera big enough to fit in the entire house. It was huge, wonderfully quirky, and strange. Come to Vermont with your equipment and I'll take you there. You could do it far more justice than I.

That's a most imposing doorway and a place I'd probably hang out in a lot too. But it looks like someone's not impressed. ;)

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
