Thursday is "This Old House Day"

The records show that this house was built in 1920. The conical tower looks more in keeping with an 1880s style. I have seen the arch treatment on this porch in a previous house I posted(click here) I like the open porch better then the glassed in one. This house is located in the Atlantic neighborhood.

The turret is almost what we would call a 'folly'; built for no real reason. It's a bit of a hobby for people over here, finding and documenting follies. Like you, I think the porch should be open.

I used to walk by that house every day after NQHS.

Greetings from Juneau, Alaska! Yes, Mendenhall Glacier is still in excistence. In fact, it's the glacier on the top of my header.

I would love to see your father's pictures of the glacier. It would be neat to compare how much it's retreated. Do you have any that have been scanned? If you send me a photo, I would definitely post it on Juneau Alaska Photo and give your father credit. People would absolutely love seeing his photos.:)

I like some of your other houses much better than this one. I certainly prefer an open porch, as well.

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
