Thursday is "This Old House Day"

This unassuming home at 40 Grandview Ave. was the scene of a wedding in 1913. Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, who directed the U.S. Naval operations in the Pacific after Japan's sneak attack at Pearl Harbor, married a Quincy girl named Catherine Vance Freeman, who lived here with her family. The couple apparently met while Nimitz was in Quincy waiting for his submarine to be outfitted at Fore River Shipyard.

Nimitz was an important person to the San Francisco area. There's even a freeway named after him.

The house isn't as glorious as some of the Massachusetts ones I've seen. I love those in the Concord area near where I lived when my husband was stationed at Hanscom Fied back in 1968.

I had read about that wedding once. Thanks for pointing out the house.
Have you ever tracked down the home where the woman who become the Duchess of Windsor lived with her first husband ?

Oh man, that would be so crazy if that duchess lived on Windsor Rd!

Maybe she lived in the same house as Mr. Murphy, who owns the Granite Rail!

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
