A Love Story
John Hancock married Dorothy Quincy on August 28, 1775. On a recent visit to the Dorothy Quincy Homestead, I inquired about an etching I observed on a window. John Hancock apparently took Dorothy Quincy's diamond ring and etched the glass with: "You I love and you alone". His nickname for her was "Dolly." This famous colonial couple had 2 children who both died at a young age. Dolly outlived John.
The paintings, by John Singleton Copley, are from the MFA, Boston. Thank you for stopping by. (Travel Tuesday will resume next Tuesday.)
