The Hummock

The small tree covered hill you see in Quincy Bay is called the Moswetuset Hummock. The name Moswetuset means roughly "house of the great chief". The great chief was Chicataubut and around 1620, he moved his people to this hummock to get away from the plague and other diseases such as small pox that killed about 90% of New England Indians.

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
