Fire Hydrants

It's fitting to end Fire Protection month with a collage of various fire hydrants located in Quincy. Their colors correspond to the size of the pipe they are attached to. The red ones are designated for commercial building use.

I didn't know they came in so many different colours. Ours are yellow concrete markers that show the location of the water supply underground, through a metal cover.

I've always found fire hydrants fascinating. They seem to have faces so your mixture is just fabulous to me. Thanks.

Very cool collage! Now I know how you name those 'water/fire things'... :-)

I'm glad you all enjoyed these as much as I did taking the pictures of them. They are color coded for a reason - - - the color corresponds to the size water main it is attached to. The red hydrants are usually associated with a commercial or industrial area.

Fascinating collage with equally fascinating information. Never knew the hydrants came with different size nozzles; now I'll have to be more observant about ours!

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
