The Sap Is Running!

The sap is dripping from this tapped maple tree on Warren Avenue. I like the recycled collection devices used here, though I have to say that nothing beats the sound of sap dripping into a tin pail except tasting the final "liquid gold" or maple sugar. If I did my research and math correctly, the owner of this tap may collect 10 gallons of sap which when boiled down should yield about 1 quart of syrup.

I will share some blueberry pancakes if the syrup maker wants to share some of the "Quincy Amber".

What is your favorite kind of pancakes? Do you like real maple syrup?

Nathan and I were just talking about this yesterday! The taste of REAL maple syrup is truly special, and so many people have never even tried it---instead they get overprocessed garbage. I can't wait to go to the nature center and taste some of their sweet goodness! I wish I knew someone personally that harvested syrup... I would have to butter up to them. :)

I just drank a sample cup of fresh, warm maple syrup two days ago and it was divine. I'd rather eat my pancakes without syrup than eat them with the commercial stuff. Favorite pancakes...three way tie between corn cakes, blueberry, and chocolate chip. I love the carton of Silk in the bucket. The whole set up is really filled with such a post-modernist sense of humor.

I like maple syrup in small doses. I love apple pancakes like my mom makes. I also had some fabulous cranberry pancakes the other day at work!

LOL. I live in maple syrup country and yet I can't abide the taste. It's big business up here and it is always a treat to go to see the syrup being made - even if I don't like the taste.

I love the picture, but I'm scared of the syrup! I do like real maple syrup; I just don't think Electrasol would go well with it.

Maybe because I work in pharmacy and my job requires some knowledge of chemical interactions, I overreact. I don't think so though. Re-use is great, but a pickle bucket would be better ~ at least the residue is non-toxic.

I have to go now, I feel the need to make pancakes. . .

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
