City Topiary

The donut shape of this maple tree near Beach Street, struck me as odd. The tree was most likely pruned so it wouldn't interfere with the electrical and communication wires. Tree branches can be a huge problem around wires; I know because we lost our telephone service once due to tree branch growing right into a wire and almost severing it.

I wish all the wires could be relocated underground . . . now there's a good public works project that could employ lots of people.

New housing around here has all the power and utility lines underground. A smart move. The rest of the neighborhoods hire Nazi butchers to decapitate trees to keep them from touching the lines.

I wonder why they pruned the tree that way since in a wind storm the branch could still land on the wires. Makes for an interesting shot though. ;-)

I am entirely with you. What a difference it would make in our communities to have the wires buried. It would be a wonderful national public works project.

Nice photo, but I think it makes the tree look funny. Why not just cut it down and forget about it. It would save the workers time in the long run.

When I was growing up in Quincy there were many more trees than now. The fact the city tries to save many of the present tress is a great idea and an asset to the city. When a few diseased trees were removed from in front of my house I just put my name on a list with the forestry department and the tress were replaced when young saplings became available. This is one of the great programs available to Quincy home owners.

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
