Where Are The Workers?

Federal stimulus dollars are at work in Quincy on a new road called the city cross connector. The building on the left will be demolished in the process. I just noticed that interesting stairway . . . now that would make a good photo subject.

Sharing A Cloud

The two Clay Street senior housing buildings look as though they are sharing a cloud between them. This view is from the Wolly T parking lost.

Marsh View

Here is another salt marsh view looking across the causeway to some houses and condos in the distance at Marina Bay.

Green, Green, Grass Of Summer

This is one of Quincy's many great salt marshes located in Squantum. Even though you see some blue sky, the sun was hiding on me.

Enjoy your Saturday everyone!

Still Creek

A few parting rain clouds look beautiful reflected in Black's Creek.

Thursday is "This Old House Day"

Today's 1898 hip roof house is located at 56 Botolph Street in the Atlantic section. I like the shingle detail and front porch.

Beach Tree

I like the way the ocean breezes impact the way the trees along Quincy Shore Drive grow.

Foggy Marsh

Sorry for the unannounced hiatus . . . life happens.

This is a beautiful section of salt marsh along Quincy Shore Drive just past Caddy Park. I like how it looks in the fog. Happy Summer everyone!

Thursday is "This Old House Day"

This is an example of the "Quincy Cottage" which was a modest worker's house built around 1880, with certain characteristics which made it practical, attractive and easily recognizable due to the particular placement of the dormers which pierce not only the lower slope of the roof but also the eaves. The majority of these cottages are in Southwest Quincy as is this one.

Welcome Glow

The welcoming pineapple symbol, carved into this gate on Lincoln Ave., is filled with the warm glow of late afternoon light which brings it to life.

Out Building

I like the slope of the land and the patina of the green doors of this granite block out-building beside St. Mary's School in West Quincy. I wonder what the building was originally used for . . .

New Dog In Town

Meet Daisy one of Quincy's newest pupppies in town and newest member of my family. She is a real cutie and my first canine ever!

This is my contribution to Monochrome Weekend. Click here to see more black and white images from around the world.

The Diploma Please . . .

These proud Quincy High School graduates are waiting to be awarded their diplomas. The sky was magnificent for the ceremony and it's my choice for Skywatch Friday.

Thursday is "This Old House Day"

This 1910 house at 188 Warren Avenue has been lovingly restored by the recent owners. I smile every time I walk by and admire it.

Now You See It . . .

Soon you won't! This building (the old Sears Building)will be razed soon for a roadway called the cross-connector. The cinema here had great bargain prices . . . perhaps the bargains were too good.

Repair Down Under

A 3-year repair project has begun on the 40-year old Neponset River Bridge connecting Quincy to Boston. You are looking at a jacked-up stairway to the bridge.

Industrial photos seem to lend themselves to monochrome. This is my entry to the Monochrome Weekend group. You can see other monochrome images from around the world HERE.

"Free To All"

This is the emblem above the doorway to the Thomas Crane Public Library. The emblem seems very appropriate for these tough fiscal times facing libraries. The hours and service at Quincy's public library are scheduled to be cut drastically unless our city leaders come up with money or a different way to proportion next year's budget. Sixteen school libraries are facing possible elimination as well.

"Libraries will get you through tough times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries." ~Anne Herbert

Bubbling Fountain

An 83 year old, third generation stone cutter from Quincy created this 11 foot granite fountain in Merrymount Park. Ed Monti, of Monti Granite, uses a high pressure torch to burn the granite stone into shape.

This is my contribution to Skywatch Friday.

Theme Day: Funny Signs

Today is "Theme Day" in the City Daily Photo world and this is the funny sign I dug out of my archive. It was posted in front of the "Beachcomber" on Wollaston Beach during the gas price hike of 2008.

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
