Where Are The Workers?
Federal stimulus dollars are at work in Quincy on a new road called the city cross connector. The building on the left will be demolished in the process. I just noticed that interesting stairway . . . now that would make a good photo subject.

Thursday is "This Old House Day"
This is an example of the "Quincy Cottage" which was a modest worker's house built around 1880, with certain characteristics which made it practical, attractive and easily recognizable due to the particular placement of the dormers which pierce not only the lower slope of the roof but also the eaves. The majority of these cottages are in Southwest Quincy as is this one.

The Diploma Please . . .
These proud Quincy High School graduates are waiting to be awarded their diplomas. The sky was magnificent for the ceremony and it's my choice for Skywatch Friday.

Repair Down Under
A 3-year repair project has begun on the 40-year old Neponset River Bridge connecting Quincy to Boston. You are looking at a jacked-up stairway to the bridge.
Industrial photos seem to lend themselves to monochrome. This is my entry to the Monochrome Weekend group. You can see other monochrome images from around the world HERE.

"Free To All"
This is the emblem above the doorway to the Thomas Crane Public Library. The emblem seems very appropriate for these tough fiscal times facing libraries. The hours and service at Quincy's public library are scheduled to be cut drastically unless our city leaders come up with money or a different way to proportion next year's budget. Sixteen school libraries are facing possible elimination as well.
"Libraries will get you through tough times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries." ~Anne Herbert

Bubbling Fountain
An 83 year old, third generation stone cutter from Quincy created this 11 foot granite fountain in Merrymount Park. Ed Monti, of Monti Granite, uses a high pressure torch to burn the granite stone into shape.
This is my contribution to Skywatch Friday.

Theme Day: Funny Signs
Today is "Theme Day" in the City Daily Photo world and this is the funny sign I dug out of my archive. It was posted in front of the "Beachcomber" on Wollaston Beach during the gas price hike of 2008.
