Thursday is "This Old House Day"

You can take a 20 minute boat ride from the Shipyard in Quincy Point and arrive in another world just outside Quincy Bay. The house pictured here is located on Lovells Island and is part of the Boston Harbor Islands National Park. This "oil house" was built in 1903, and was used to supply fuel to the lighthouse station that was located on the island but deactivated in 1939 and no longer standing. I like the shell mound and lobster trap in the foreground.

What a pity that that little house is not restored...

It's amazing that it's still standing up.

"Shell mound" — thank you. I thought it was too course to be sand and didn't have the word for it, until now.

I was so taken by the image of the house that I missed the lobster trap. This would make a wonderful postcard or prompt for some creative writing!

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
