The city opens the gate to the pond when the ice is safe to skate on. The shovel in the foreground serves as their "Zamboni" to clean the ice.

In the summer we used to also fish here.

I'm glad this brings fond memories back for you too. My brother used to fish here and he played hockey here with some of the priests from St. Ann's. I don't know whether the lights still go on at night.
