Shaping Up

Things are really shaping up at the new high school. This is one of the sun-filled areas of the new school library which seems to lend itself to monochrome. Happy Monochrome Monday everyone!

Dedication On Many Levels

The new Quincy High School auditorium seats 750 people and will be used for the first time today for a ribbon cutting ceremony. What an incredible accomplishment for Quincy.

Lunchbreak

The new high school courtyard looks like a great place for some construction workers to have their lunch.

I will be featuring a series of photos of the new high school this upcoming week as opening day approaches.

Sunset stroll

This family is enjoying a late summer stroll along "Wollie Beach". I like the soft colors of the sky in this Skywatch Friday image.

Thursday is "This Old House Day"

Today's house is located in the Atlantic section. Some of Quincy's oldest houses are located here along with turn-of-the-century period residences like this one.

Plenty of Puddles & Parking

We're experiencing a Nor'easter which brings some welcomed rain. This is the rooftop of the former Paperama and to be really nostalgic, Raymond's Department Store.

Rolling To The Finish

Carts and materials are lined up outside the new gymnasium at Quincy High School. Schools will open here in two weeks.

Redline

How is your Monday morning commute? Many people from Quincy commute into Boston to work and they take the Red-line train to get there.

A Breath Of Fresh

The air is being cleared of construction particles and final work is being done on Quincy's new high school. I will be posting a few more images from the site as the opening of school fast approaches.

This is my contribution to Monochrome Weekend. Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

The Headless Sunbather

This man is just catching some August rays on the bow of his boat. If you enlarge the image you'll see his hat, glasses and shoes, but where is his head?

Sizzling Sunset

Squantum Yacht Club is a great spot to catch a sunset.

It's Skywatch Friday. Click here for more sky images from around the world.

Thursday is "This Old House Day"

This 1895 house at 27 Prospect Ave. has recently been updated with new siding, windows and shutters. The owners kept a lot of the house's turn-of-the-century character and at the same time, chose low maintenance materials. I call that smart.

Down Under

Bridge work is very disruptive to 70,700 vehicles that cross this bridge daily, but it is long overdue. The new piers are in place and now the 40-year-old Neponset River Bridge, which connects Quincy to Boston, will receive a new deck along with some other work.

You can get more information on local road and bridge work HERE.

Layout

It looks like quite a meticulous process to install the massive gym floor at the new high school.

A Sliver Of Silver

This Silver line stop along Boston's waterfront is deserted on this weekend night. Doesn't it look a bit eerie and futuristic?

From Quincy, you can pick this up off the Red line train at South Station to get to the airport in Boston.

Garden View

The garden is forever changing at the Adams Mansion. I enjoy visiting it often to see what's new.

Blacks Creek estuary is so lush in the summertime.

It's Skywatch Friday and you can view other skies by clicking HERE. Enjoy!

Thursday is "This Old House Day"

This colonial revival recently received a face-lift and some new paint colors. I understand that the owners took time to research the colors that were used at the time their house was built in 1900. These colors show off the angles and architectural details of this fine home at 137 Prospect Avenue. Check out the unique wrap-around porches! The cutout umbrella design can also be seen on other turn-of-the-century houses around Quincy.

Hole In One

I really like the juxtaposition of elements at the demo site of the old Sears building aka Quincy Fair Mall.

Reap What You Sow

On my recent travels, I was reminded of a favorite character from Barbara Cooney's book, Miss Rumphius, in which the grandfather tells his grandaughter (Miss Rumphius) that she needs to do something to make the world more beautiful. She planted lupine seeds along the highways and byways of Maine!

I didn't come across any lupines along the byways, but I did spot this 5-pointed beauty in the garden at the Adams National Historic site when I got home to Quincy.

What would you do, if you were given that directive?

Follow The Signs

Somehow the signs led me back to Quincy. I hope you have all been well while I was meandering around New England. I will resume regular posting tomorrow.

Summer Attraction

This tiger swallowtail butterfly was a delight to see pollinating the phlox bed along my driveway.
